BENOA HARBOR (Pelabuhan Benoa) is located off the end of a long causeway 5km southwest of southern Sanur, and is the arrival and departure point for many sailing trips and tourist boat services, including luxury trips to Nusa Lembongan, as well for all Pelni ships from elsewhere in Indonesia, plus cruise liners.
Despite the shared name, there’s just over a kilometer of sea between the harbor and the northern tip of the Tanjung Benoa peninsula, and the journey between the two has to be done the long way round, by land. The easiest way to reach Benoa Harbor is by metered taxi. Occasional public bemos also run here from near Denpasar’s Sanglah hospital, and there is also a sporadic return service.
Tickets for Pelni boats to other islands must be bought in advance (booking opens three days before departure), either through travel agents or at the Pelni offices in Benoa Harbor (Mon-Fri 8am-4pm, Sat 8am-12.30pm) or Kuta. Tickets for tourist boats to Nusa Lembongan and sailing trips can be booked through any tour agents and include transfers to the harbor.
